Special Education Reading Project (SERP) Secondary Institute
Parts I & II — Effective Instruction for Secondary Struggling Readers: Research-Based Practices (with video)
Intended as a three-day interactive workshop for Texas general and special education educators, this institute offers adaptations for secondary reading instruction. It was developed with the support of the Texas Education Agency; The University of Texas at Austin, College of Education; and the Special Education Reading Project task force.
The Institute is organized into the following sections:
- Section 1: Introduction
- Section 2: Reading Comprehension
- Section 3: Vocabulary
- Section 4: Word Identification
- Section 5: Fluency
Bound into two notebooks, Parts I and II, each section is self-sufficient in that it contains speaker notes, presentation slides (offered as either color transparencies or electronic presentations on CD-ROM), participant note pages, handouts, teacher resources, and references. In addition, there is a speaker preparation section with information for the presenter and a video that accompanies the training. The video is available on both VHS and CD-ROM.
