Activities to Implement the Prekindergarten Curriculum Guidelines
Download 5.3 MB PDF
This booklet is designed to incorporate the Texas Prekindergarten Curriculum Guidelines into instructional practice by providing suggestions for integrating learning across the curriculum in a planned learning environment. It is divided into three sections:
- The Introduction provides general information on implementing the Prekindergarten Curriculum Guidelines.
- The Curriculum Matrix correlates the activities across the content areas of the guidelines.
- The activities are organized by their primary content areas: Language and Early Literacy, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, and enrichment activities. The activities may be extended to other content areas.
Teaching prekindergarten is like choreography: much goes on behind the scenes before the classroom door opens. Planning and preparation require thoughtful deliberation during instructional and curricular decision-making that include:
- Designing activities that stimulate learning across content areas;
- Establishing connections between classroom content and childrens experiences to make learning relevant;
- Deciding how to organize the classroom to provide learning opportunities that stimulate intellectual and social development;
- Determining which activities are most effective to achieve specific learning objectives for each child; and
- Preparing creative lesson plans and making adjustments.
